Will Centrelink cut me off?
Hey everyone,
During the University year I have been getting $345 (Youth Allowance) plus $35 rent assistance a fortnight.
Now the holidays are coming, I moved out of my rental property. I am scared if I tell them, they’ll not only cut rental assistance off but also all my Youth Allowance and say “You’ll get it back once you return to Uni next year.”
I’m considering deferring next year, but that is irrelevant until next year.
Any help?

Believe me it is best to be up front with them as they will make you pay back any extra that they give you if they find your circumstances have changed. My daughter has just gotten living away from home allowance and because before that they paid money directly to me, when they started paying my daughter they then asked me to pay the months money they had sent me back which I had to do. So just be careful as if they do find out you may have to pay anything you get back

You have to declare any income or change of circumstances on your Centrelink documentation, failure to do so within 14 days can lead to prosecution.
