What does “B” mean in this mathematic formula?
y=mx+b
Yes, the slope intercept formula for a graph. But why did they choose “B” instead of any other letter?

thats just the way the mathmatician that invented it did. It could’ve been the intial letter of a greek or latin word or sumthing but most likely just what they felt like putting… Hella people have asked this in my math classes

This is known as the y-intercept where the graph cuts the y-axis.I know it as the letter c.So I guess you could use another letter.
