Interview Questions…?

Hello all,

I have just applied for a teacher assistant position at an elementary school. I was wondering if anyone could help me prepare for what types of questions will be asked if I get an interview. This is the first time I’ve applied for a position in a school setting. What types of questions will be asked in an interview? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I have been involved with interviews sometimes they give you scenario questions. One we used is, “you ask johnny to get his book and come work with you, and Johnny says NO, What do you do?” Depending on the needs of the classroom they may ask you your strengths and weaknesses in general or academically. They may ask if you are able or comfortable to teach certain subjects, math, spelling etc. Another question we asked is, “A teacher asks you to do something you don’t understand or are uncomfortable doing, how do you respond.”

Why do you what to teach? What is your teaching philosophy? How do you prepare a lesson? How do you visual your classroom? What do you believe is the right discipline for children? Do you reward the children when doing well? Do you believe each child is unique and has special qualities that you, as a teacher, must be able to recognize? What is your team teaching approach? Where do you get your resources? Are you creative? These are things for you to think about offering to the interviewer…speak up and tell them what you do that makes you qualified.
