Can anybody suggest some poems for pre-school children on fruit? And also do suggest some weekend assignments?

I also want some weekend assignments on fruit too

The first ones that come to mind for me are

Way up High in the Apple Tree

(hands up)

Two little apples smiled at me

(hold up two fists)

I shook the tree as hard as I could

(shake hands)

Down came the apples

(hands in lap)

Mmm, were they good

(pat tummy)

This one may be too Halloween-y

Five little pumpkins

Sitting on a gate

The first one said,

“My it’s getting late!”

The second one said,

“There are witches in the air!”

The third one said,

“Good folk, beware!”

The fourth one said,

“We’ll run and run!”

The fifth one said,

“Let’s have some fun!”

“WOOOOOOOH”, went the wind,

And OUT went the light;

And the five little pumpkins

Rolled out of sight!

For “weekend assignments”, I assume you mean that you want fun activities for children to do with their families. As the previous answerer said, ask each child to bring in a different fruit. You could have them bring in different fruits to make a fruit salad together on Monday OR ask them to bring in different/unusual fruits OR different kinds of apples (always interesting to do a bar chart showing children’s favorites).

Check here for great ideas:

Just google “preschool theme fruit” and you’ll get TONS of ideas.

The only thing I can think of is the Apples and Bananas song.

I like to eat, eat, eat Apples and Bananas

Then it goes on to change the E in eat to each vowel. I tis a cute song.

For an assignment you can have them bring in a fruit they have never tried, or just eat a fruit they have never tried over the weekend and then tell about it when they come back.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Beans bean the magical fruit…..” but – hee hee – I don’t think that’s what you had in mind.

There’s a great book out there called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – it’s all about a bunch of numbers climbing a coconut tree – a rhyming book. Not really about fruit but it’s a GREAT book. The follow-up Chicka Chicka 1-2-3 is about a bunch of numbers climbing an apple tree. So, it’s fruit but probably not in the sense you’re looking for.

Just thought I would pass it along though. It’s my kids’ favourite book.

Fruits have seeds,

Seeds make fruit,

Seeds can be as small as beads!
