if i can get admission in U of I?

i heard that according to your major, sometimes colleges dont look at the other scores. i just want to know if i can get admission in U of I in Engineering Field. I want to be a Computer Engineer ( Software) I came to america when i was in 8th grade. I am senior now, i mean after this summer break. because i came to american 3 years ago, and had no clue about english, i still think i did well. I got 20 on reading and 20 in English. This year i am taking Honors Composition, Isnt this impressive. SO by looknig at my major, if i apply in U of I, can i get admission. I want to go to U of I so badly, its my and my parents dream, SO please i request you to help me with this situation.

Do you really expect anyone to be able to answer you? You don’t tell us your GPA. You don’t tell us your SAT score (which most schools want). You don’t tell us if you are applying as an in-state resident or out of state resident. You don’t even tell us which U of I you are talking about. Is it Iowa? Is it Illinois? Is it Indiana (which most people call IU — but since your English isn’t that great, you could mean that).

Your ACT math score is good enough to get into those schools. Your science and verbal scores are not — if you are applying as an out-of-state resident. In-state, you could have a shot if you have a high GPA — but need to improve.

Look at web sites like Princeton Review — they have lots of information on average statistics of those who get admitted.

If you struggle with English then I would suggest private tutoring. But as for your ACT scores…not that great. Most colleges look at your COMP score. Unless it’s at least in the mid to high 20’s you son’t stand a chance. You didn’t give us the COMP score though. Also, a current unweighted HS GPA would help us answer your question a little better. Take the SAT too. Colleges will take the higher of the two tests. Good luck and don’t lose hope!

I would suggest that you retake the ACT and include a personal statement with your application that provides background information. Admission to Engineering (and any other college at U of I) is very competitive and you might want to consider beginning at a community college. The community colleges in Illinois have articulation agreements with the U of I and if you are successful during your first two years in the community college you can then apply as a transfer student.
