So, my teacher gave us an assignment and said outside help is FULLY encouraged and I need some help with a problem or a few. First of all, Point M is the midpoint of line segment JK. JM=x/8 and JK=(3x/4)-6 Find MK. Also, ig s polygon has 4,850 diagonals how many sides does it have? Thanks!

With the line you have two equal segments.
Set up an equation.
1/8 times x = 3/4 times x – 6.
3/4 of x – 1/8 of x = 5/8 of x
So, 5/8 of x = 6
x = 6 times 8/5
x = 48/5
so MK = 1/8 of 48/5 = 6/5
The number of diagonal can be found with this formula
d = [n(n -3)]/2
so,
4850 = (n^2 – 3n)/2, multiply both sides of the equation by 2.
9700 = n^2 – 3n
n^2 – 3n – 9700 = 0, factor
(n + 97)(n – 100) so n = -97 or n = 100.
You need a positive number of sides , so the polygon will have 100 sides.
