why are literature classes called english classes you dont study the language english or english culture?

why dont they just call it literature

They call it that because it kind of does study the language English as far as grammar, punctuality, structure and spelling are concerned.

But what I don’t know is why my English course was called “Language Arts”

this is old terminology tt needs to be changed. for lite – maybe better to specify wh language its in as u may hv indian, chinese, french etc
