This is a probability problem. Specifically, you have an arrangement problem. You have four seats (n) [the object] x the number of combinations possible. There will be 24 different ways based on the formula n x (n-1) x (n-2) x (n-3) =a (arrangements) or 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24 (note that once one person sits in the first seat they can no longer be considered for that seat therefore (n-1 etc.).

Using the following abbreviations:

Patty =P

Amanda = A

Stephanie =S and

Bryan = B

Your seating combinations would be:

PASB

PABS

PSBA

PSAB

PBAS

PBSA

ASBP

ASPB

ABPS

ABSP

APSB

APBS

SAPB

SABP

SBAP
