whats the main use of search engines?
well,..what i mean is,…search engines all search engines have the claim to fame…and i know yahoo is big on education but what is all the ones u guys know are good at?

The main differences in search engines are the methods they use to sort the answers from top to bottom. Google uses the number of links to a page to determine it’s relative place in the list of hits. Yahoo has moved to something similar, and also has an topic scheme to classify pages. None are any better than others, in general. All of them send out search bots to scour the web, and have about the same amount of the web indexed, so in that regard they are not too much different.
If you want certain things then different companies have different kinds of things, for example http://scholar.google.com does a great job for educational stuff. Similarly they have special stuff for images, movies, etc.
So, I pick the one that have the best stuff for me. Toolbar, email etc. but they pretty much all have that.
