associate is midlevel degree whereas baccalaureate is full degree. basically, the subjects may be divided into core subjects ( more academic inclined ) and practical subjects. so that one may be conferred an asso. degree by finishing the practical subjects plus a number of the core subjects and start working and earn money. then, once you are ready, you can finish the entire course and get the bacc. degree and be qualified to higher positions in the nursing field.

When you get your associates in nursing (ADN), you are a registered nurse. Getting a Bachlor’s in nursing (BSN), you are still labeled as an RN, but with BSN in your title. Having a BSN allows you more oppertunities in nursing, such as being charge nurse.
An associate degree only takes 2 years to complete, while a bachlor’s requires 4 years.
Many universities offer an ADN to BSN program, where RNs who have their ADN can get their BSN in a couple of years.
