Whats the best way for a student to find financial aid?

the school i go to is a small private school. there are 49 kids in my class and i have the best grade out of all the guys and maybe 3rd altogether. the school costs around 9,000 a year and im jus feelin the reprucussions, as i jus turned 16, and have no car, while the majority of my friends are gettin new 15-25k cars. my dad does not want to try financial aid cus he thinks it isnt owrth the time.. but my friend told me today financial aid pays for half of his tuition. that def sounds worth it to me… any1 know a good program for financial aid?

Based on your father’s reactions, (plopping down 9K a year for private school and being indifferent to your requests for financial aid), it sounds like your family wouldn’t qualify for “grant” financial aid assistance like your friend. (This is my humble opinion based on experience and I most certainly could be wrong). Try a different approach – research financial aid options with your high school counselor – including gathering all necessary applications and present them in a giant stack with required attachments to your father. When he mumbles something about not being worth his time, present him with a simple one page application for a car loan from his bank. Also ask him to take you to an interview to get a part time job. Your initiative and resourcefulness might get his attention.
