Get my information from other sources. There is always an official history and an unofficial history. The second one usually paints a completely different picture. Find informed sources and use critical thinking. A piece of advice, please do not waste your time or your breath trying to discuss things like these with people who are unable to accept the fact that your opinion is different.

Do about what? All texts are biased, especially history books. I call it revised history, they paint it the way that suits the current political philosophy. After all, it wouldn’t be good to tell people the absolute truth about the Civil War, nor could many people handle the true barbarity of the KKK.

I would study the assignments as assigned, take the tests to pass, knowing that I don’t have to agree, I just have to pass. If given the opportunity to do a research paper, I would do the paper from an opposing viewpoint.

All history books are biased. Reading a variety of information about specific events helps round out one person’s view. My history teacher had us pick up a smaller book in addition to our textbook. It includes several excerpts from several textbooks demonstrating how different each book describes events. It was a real eye opener.
