What Language (German, Spanish) Class Should I Take In High School?

I would really like to take German but Spanish would be easier and would help me more. Which one should I choose?

I agree with Morningstar .. take both! But, don’t begin both in the same year. Start with Spanish because it IS easier (you don’t have to deal with declining nouns for example) then pick up German next year. You will learn a lot in Spanish that will help you in learning German — mostly English grammar! A pet peeve of language teachers is how much ENGLISH grammar they must teach!

Find the language that suits you best and stick with it. Spanish is easier for English speakers because it has less genders and has less complexity in it’s language than German has.

Spanish has two Genders Feminine and Masculine.

For instance.

El Nino = The Boy

La Nina = The Girl.

German has 3 Genders. Feminine, Masculine and Neuter.

Das Mädchen = The GIrl.

Der Junge = The Boy.

Die Straße = The Street.

Can you guess which Genders they are.

If you thought Das Mädchen was feminine you would be wrong. It is actually Neuter. German grammer classifications have no basis in natural reality.

Where as Der Junge is Masculine. Die Straße is Feminine

I will give you some advice. Take one language and finish it, become fluent before you take up the next. My mother has been trying to become fluent in at least 10 languages and can still not speak spanish Fluently even though she has been doing it since I was born.

I don’t have any revel in with learning german, but when english is your 1st language it could generally be simpler for you. French occurs to be mine, so I picked up on spanish alternatively without problems. National defence / Pentagon paintings = I could take spanish. German is most of the time used as a lingua franca in Europe among the ones forty and up, however Spanish would are available helpful in lots of one-of-a-kind international locations and circumstances.

I have been taking French for around four years. My advice to you is never take French coz it’s damn difficult. Among German and Spanish, I think you should take spanish coz its more widely spoken. German is usually spoken only in Germany. On the other hand, Spanish is spoken throughout the world (ex: Spain, Mexico and the Phillipines)

If you really would like German then go for it. I’ve learned Italian rather than German (which would have helped me more in my job) and I never regretted learning the language that I really wanted.
