I think you mean ‘Once BITTEN twice shy’.. Well I hope anyways.. But I guess it could mean the same!!

It means once something bad has happened when you’ve done something, you think twice about doing that again.

It’s exceedingly heavy with sweet-sounding, descriptive words. It’s like a long-winded child’s fairy-tale about love. Except in a fairy-tale, the teller would get on with the story! What the heck is “mussed”? Are you deliberately trying to identify your narrator as coming from a specific time and place where such a colloquialism is in use? The boy walks so close as to get half a metre from the girl. Then he stares at her and it’s nearly 200 words of prose before anyone says “Hi.” In paragraph two, you have “Cautiously, he stepped forwards”. I’m not surprised he was cautious – he was already only half a metre away! Another step risked knocking her over! Half a metre doesn’t sound very romantic, does it? If he was so afraid of rejection he didn’t even look at her, did he get so close because he wasn’t looking where he was going? And then suddenly he “stares” at her. This doesn’t evidently add up very well. There are several oddities in here, such as “her pale neck holding another fine necklace”. Why “another” necklace? How many others are there? Where are they? How many is she wearing? “stroking his soft hair, but she ploughed on” risks inciting laughter. “She hung her head in shame, hanging like a rag doll” sounds cliched. Most of this story sounds like some very old, ultra-sweet love story. Even Mills and Boon would liven it up much more. No-one can seriously read this story and imagine it’s set in the current time or presented for current tastes. Cinderella, for example, is more sophisticated than this.

It’s actually “once bitten twice shy” and it means like you’ve been burned before, so you’re really careful the second time around.

I thought it was “Once Bitten, twice shy”. Means that if a person did you wrong once, then you are more likely to avoid to turn to that person again.

The correct statement is “Once bitten, twice shy.” It means once you’ve been “bitten” you’ll be a little “shyer” next time. Or in other words once someone has tricked you or hurt you you’ll ber a little more cautious with them.
