6-8th is middle school, and 9th-12th is high school.

i dont know about in America but grammar school was what they now call comprehensive school in England. At the age of 11 all children in the UK took an exam called the 11+ if you passed you went to a grammar school where you were expected to study academic subjects such as science and humanities. if you failed you went to a secondary modern where you were expected to study more practical subjects like typing or woodwork. Then along came the labour government who stopped the 11+ and changed all secondary schools to comprehensives. so now every one goes to a comprehensive and the top grades still study academic subjects and the lower grades study academic subjects too. you usually stay at these school from 11years to 16 then you go to s sixth form college. ohh and all this changed about 25years ago.

Grammar school is essentially elementary school. In some districts that’s grades K – 5 (when 6th grade is in the middle school) and in other districts that’s grades K – 6.
