A good idea is to call these company’s or even the art colleges and state and universities in California and ask those departments what they’d recommend. They may say to start out at a certain university near you, get your bachelors degree in 4 years, then go to the Academy of Art in San Francisco to get your master’s degree.
Another option is to just take all of your college education at Academy of Art. That way you can get into it right away, and you’ll learn ALOT in about 6 years (that’s how long it’ll take to complete ALL education), but the big corporations like ebay, apple, pixar, disney, and dreamworks LOVE students who spent all of their time at an art school, but they also LOVE those students who show that they have been born with creativity (they’ll be able to tell when you have a portfolio that shows all of your work.
Just be prepared to get financial aid for school because you’ll be spending almost the rest of your life paying off the financial aid bills.
I live in CA and what I did was I started out at Fresno State, then finished at Sac State with a degree in Graphic Design. Now I have a GREAT full time job as a Graphic Designer and I also teach part-time at a local Junior College. If you want to work for Pixar or something you’ll have to shoot higher than I did. And that means go to an Art School and be a GREAT designer. You can’t just be good you have to be GREAT to work for those big corporations.
I’d recommend the Academy of Art, or the Art Institute, all of which are in San Francisco (you’ll graduate at a much higher level than those coming out of junior college or a state school), but if money is an issue I’d recommend Sac State. Its one of the most sought after programs in Northern California, much more than Chico, Fresno, UC Davis, and SF State.
California State University – Chico Bachelor degree Computer Graphics: A program that focuses on the software, hardware, and mathematical tools used to represent, display, and manipulate topological, two-, and three-dimensional objects on a computer screen and that prepares individuals to function as computer graphics…
