There you go … picture with labels.
The Marine Corps are currently using the M-16 A2 Service Rifle.
There are three main parts:
1- Upper Receiver
2- Lower Receiver
3- Bolt Carrier Group…
The other parts are (starting from the top heading south):
– Compensator (aka: brim/muzzle) (where the bullet comes out)
– Barrel (the bullet travels through this)
– Handguard (pretty much self explanatory, it’s plastic and has two separate pieces)
– Slip Ring (holds the handguard on… in order to take off the handguard you need to pull down on this) (btw, sometimes this jams)
– Trigger (no need to explain, I hope)
– Carrying handle
+ Within the bolt carrier group…
– Bolt
– Bolt Spring
– Firing Pin
