Text Messaging???
Does anyone else here think that computers and texting people might be the reason why there are so many spelling errors on Yahoo! Answers. Even with the spell check feature built in. It just does not make any sense to me.

yea i think it has to do with all that chatting and stuff. that’s why i started actually typing in full words instead of abbreviating almost EVERYTHING. haha

I think that to blame people’s inability on anyone other than themselves is silly. People shouldn’t use a scapegoat for things they could fix. Now, if you are referring to people abbreviating things, such as “ppl” or “lol,” then yes I think that is from text messages, but the complete mutilation of words is rooted deeper. For instance, when someone misspells “mutilation” to be “mutalation” it isn’t because they would have done so to shorten their text message. It is because they don’t know how to spell it and are therefore attempting to do so phonetically.
