Read the detail…I REALLY need help with this brain buster!!!?

I was travelling from Chesterton to Newcastle recently when I came across a sign which had fallen off its post at the crossroads. It was marked to Newcastle, Chesterton, Knutton and Silverdale. Unfortunately I didn’t know which road to take to Newcastle and had hoped the sign would help. Luckily, I had a brainwave which helped me put the sign back pointing correctly to Newcastle. What was my idea?

im thinking map, but it seems too obvious.

All I can think is, if you’re coming from Chesterton, then you must know which direction that is. If you position the sign so that it points correctly at Chesterton, the rest of the arrows should point correctly as well.

This makes some assumptions about the nature of the sign, of course, but I think they’re justified.

you set the sign so that “Chesterton” pointed down the road on which you approached the sign
