Focus on just what you are doing right now—-it’s time to slow down and concentrate just on the classes you are taking. It’s usually very hard, when you go from high school to college of any type, to predict what grade you will make.

Don’t catastrophize—this is the time to be very determined and positive.

The whole point of “withdrawing” (and I have done it, and later got a Master’s Degree at a 4 year University) is to have an “out” when things are too difficult.

Assess where you are right now—don’t plan the future. Concentrate on your next semester courses like there is nothing else in the world—think only of those courses, and everything surrounding them. Focus–plan–and over-prepare for each class meeting so you have confidence that you are keeping up. Do not project ahead of this semester—just work on your course assignments. Compartmentalize this semester completely, with your only goal the final grade. Don’t waste any time or energy on anything else, until you have finished every course possible to get your Community College 2-year degree.

Then, and only then, start assessing how to move on.

I’m not positive but I don’t think withdrawing from a class (in time and done according to policy) will be seen as negative. Retake the other ‘F’ class. Getting into another school will depend on your GPA and of course, the higher the better. Don’t overload yourself, take it slow, use the summer session for a class, and focus. A good idea is to go to the 4-year school you want to attend (or check online) for the prerequisites necessary to get into the program (department) you want to major in. If you complete your 2-year completely, you’ll have accomplished all the liberal arts basics which then free you up to focus on your major and the school’s requirements. Good luck and good for you!

You haven’t blown it! Just keep working on your courses and resolve to do better this semester. Everyone is allowed one bad semester. Just don’t let it become 2 bad semesters or 3 bad semesters, etc.

If you really know you can do better, there is a program in Texas called Fresh Start. This allows you to start over and wipe the slate clean. That means the college you are going to just ignores the previous classes you took and does not count them for GPA. See if you have a similar program in your state.

Best of Luck. I hope you do better this coming semester.

I don’t think you are the first person to have done that. Go repeat those classes and prove to others that the first semester was a fluke. Lots of people have trouble in their first semester. In the end, you show them your final grade and that you learned from your mistake.

The fact that you know that is a problem is encouraging. Keep your head up, do better this semester. Good Luck.

although your GPA will be low which might be hard to get accepted to a college (and maybe not if you have an associates degree), but if you do get accepted into the college, most colleges wont take any of your grades that are lower than a C, so those F’s will be not be there when you graduate the 4 year college. i do believe tho, that if you retake those courses, that the grade will be replaced by the second/highest grade. hope this helped!
