Im in grade 10 and I need some advice about med school?

I’m in grade 10 and I definitely need to start thinking about my future. I’m considering working to become a family doctor or a psychiatrist, but can someone with experience tell me a little about what it’s like? I’m worried about getting into a good medical school. I don’t volunteer around my community very much, and I’m not involved in any extracurricular activities but I do have a 92% overall average…

I’m not too great at math either, but everything else is in the high 80s-90s. I dunno. I just really need help figuring it all out.

To tell you the truth I’d rather do something cool like art or fashion or music or writing but my mom said that isn’t going to happen so. I don’t know.Having a breakdown of sorts and I just need someones advice.desperately. what do i need to work at to get into a good med school?

First of all, keep up the good work and ambition!! Second, there are a few major requirements for most med schools for them to even consider you. Grades are not everything. They are important, but post-graduate schools like to know that they’re accepting a good, well-rounded individual. At the University of Utah, for example, they go by eight different categories of consideration: College GPA, Mcat, volunteer work, extra curricular activities, physician shadowing, patient assesment, research, and leadership. They look at the previous four years before entrance. My advice to you to get into a school like that would be to take on a club or two at your high school and focus on helping out a lot and hopefully leading it so you can have something to further yourself with and you can get some leadership experience. Also, try some advanced classes if you haven’t already. Classes you should pay close attention to are [clearly] the sciences, like biology and chemistry, and if your school offers some sort of medical terminology or anatomy classes, look into those. Start liking them now because you’re going to be stuck with them!! Take your time and form good study habits. Don’t stress too much now because you’ve got a while to think about it.

On the other hand, when you’re starting to get to the point where you’re seriously looking at college you’re going to be a big kid, so don’t let your parents run your life. It’s your life so you get to decide where it goes.

you should do what you feel is the right profession for you because no matter how overrated it sounds you’re not gonna be happy if your hearts not in it. what you should do is go to a hospital near you and ask to “shadow” a doctor for a day. that way you can see whether or not you like what you see. it’ll take a long time outta of your life to get that degree so i recommend that you make sure you’re not wasting your time and that its what you want. you can also ask them what you need in order to be successful in that career. hope that helps! dont freak out so much you have time. enjoy your youth before its gone.
