In some cases it doesn’t matter how much you study, it matters how much you retain. I know for me if I studied one subject for more than 30 min. I would start to feel real bored with it, and it was like I wasn’t learning anything at all.

Then it is how do you study. Some people learn real well from just reading, some from Q&A, flash cards, or practice, the trick is developing a system that works best for you.

I taught high school social studies for four years. I quit to pursue other dreams; however, I remember answering this question often. I hope you believe me.

We are all on an average intelligence plain. Little difference exist other than the rare genius or the more common development disability. The largest determinant of your success is if you understand how you learn and how best to study. For example, I remember what I read but little of what I hear. Some people are better auditory learners, others visual, others by doing. What you need to do is determine what works best for you.

Studying, taking test, learning, etc, is like anything else. The harder you work at it, the better you become. However, don’t study more, study smarter. Break the material into manageable sections and conquer them one-by-one.

Also, the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. Do so requires you to develop all modalities (ways to learn). Create a lesson to teach a friend. They will do well, but you’ll do better. That’s the secret to why teachers/professors are walking textbooks. They are no more intelligent than you are. They merely must know what their talking about to be successful.

I hope that helps.

There are several things that influence your grade.

Whether or not you like the subject, how much you pay attention in class, the method by which you study, how able you are to absorb material and so on.

Basically if you want to get a higher grade than everybody else, you don’t just need to study a lot. You also need to study in the RIGHT way. Some people are visual learners and learn by pictures, some people have photographic memories and can retain a lot of information just by looking at it. Other people need to hear the information and will retain it that way. Some people need to be shown physical examples of what they’re trying to learn in order to remember it.

It’s all about you. Find the way that you learn best. How long you can concentrate on one thing for, how long you can read a text book before you need to move on to something else. Educational videos or flowcharts. Tutors and studygroups can be good too.

Maybe ask your teacher about what kind of education they think you need?

It really depends on how and what you study. You can study all day but if you keep reviewing unnecessary things, it will be a waste, so it’s important to make sure you’re studying the right things first. I remember I had a class where I barely studied while my friend studied and took notes off the book. She would be upset whenever we got the same score. I realized that was because she would study and take note of unnecessary things, things that didn’t really relate to what was going to be on the test. Basically, we could’ve gotten the same score even if she *didn’t* study. When you study, just make sure you stick to main ideas rather than pointless details (unless your teacher is the type that likes to trick you with details). Just try to guess the questions based on the ones you remember from your previous tests.

Depends. If you really like the subject, then you will probably get a better grade if the other person doesnt, and vis virsa. But it also depends on the difference of hours. If one person studies 3 hours and the other person 6 hours, there’s a slight chance the 6 hours will do better. (6 hours of pure studying.)
