If I study and I am a smart person why do I get bad grades in high school?

Well I study and do all my homework and I don’t get good grades. I don’t get it people tell me I am a very inteligent person, but yet it isn’t fair because I put a lot of effort like I am supposed to and do my best and I am not getting good grades. It seems the people who are less inteligent get better grades. I don’t get it. What’s the point if I try and nothing is happening? Could it be my adhd?

Some people are book smart and some people are street smart. Meaning some people can get A’s and not have a clue what real life is, and then there are people who know what the real world is and struggle with books.

See maybe you’re doing what we say “study hard not smart”? Sometimes it’s not the intensity you do everything, but really learning the tricks. Try to get down to the main points, and don’t focus so much on the lesser important info. I used to get low Bs on my math test with tons of studying, but then learning the main points raised my average to an A. Good luck on everything.

You could be the smartest person in the world and still get poor grades. Are you meeting the objectives that the teacher set for the class? Have you tried speaking to your teacher and asking him/her what you can do to improve your grades?

Your ADHD might be a factor if it affects your behavior in class in a negative way.

Maybe you have some sort of anxiety when it comes to school work. Though sometimes bad grades just happen. You could have been well prepared for a test and then completely bombed it something things like that just happen.

Personally, I feel grades are a poor measure of one’s capabilities. I’m a moron and lazy but I still pull off As and Bs (to be fair it is just psych major). Maybe you get nervous during tests and thus reflect poorly.

I would ask for a meeting with your teacher to find out why the teacher is giving you low grades. Then ask for help in improving the things that need improving.

it could be that you don’t test well, or that you’re even over-studying. my best advice would be to get a tutor in the subjects you don’t seem to be doing so well in, and just keep trying. also, if you stress out too much about your grades, you’re more likely to not do well. good luck!

Are you turning in assignments ON TIME? That is usually the biggest reason for low grades.

some people just are better test takers. some people know how to reason and rationalize things and are considered smart to others in social environments= you. and others can memorize quickly and do better in school= them. So maybe you’re just the type who seems smart because you have common sense.

ok ask your teacher about you problem and make him explain about it and your teacher will surely explain it to you…keep all you assignment, your test paper and the quiz , oral recitations, projects results…your attitude also counts your attendance is 10 percent then compare it to the class record that your teacher have.. you have a right to question your teacher as long as you have proof.. teacher is also human they also commit mistakes.

there is a lot of factors to be considered in giving grades.
