I’ll be 23 when I finish college. Is that too old?

I’m 22 right now. I took a year off after high school to work. I know some graduate at around 22. Some 22-25 for a master’s degree. I’ll have my degree in Business Management.

Not at all.

I took 15 years off for the US Navy (1985-1999). I had completed 3 years toward a BA in History, but ran out of money and enlisted. I finished my BA in 1991 (at 28), got a commission, and served 4 more years.

While serving the last 4 years, I picked up a BS in Telecommunications, and went to work for a phone company until it folded in 2002. I then took a year off, picked up my Teaching Certificate and taught Jr High for the last 4 yrs.

I finished a Masters in Education this spring… I’m now 43, and am hoping to get accepted to a docorate program.

No way that is not to old.. I graduated high school many years ago and now that my kids are all almost in school themselves.. I have gone back myself and I went in to yet a degree in HealthCare Administration. So no age should not matter what matters is that you are getting an education and you should be proud of that..

Unless you took the year off to TOTALLY waste time, I think a lot of first employers will look at it as a positive, if you can support their assumption that you’re more mature. Going directly to college isn’t right for everyone, and if you demonstrated a little reflection and/or foundational work before starting, that will be a “plus.”

You’re never too old to finish college. The important thing is that you finish. People in graduate and doctoral programs are still in school in their 30’s. You are still very young – 23 is hardly old!

Absolutely not. Tlhat is not too old! I know people who work a few years, go back to college and are in their 30’s when they finish. You just hang right in there, don’t give your age a single thought. You are headed in the right direction no matter how old you are.

Too old for what.

“I’d like to go back to school and be a doctor, but that will take eight years. And in eight years I’ll be forty years old!”

“How old will you be in eight years if you don’t go back to school?”
