Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The saying “the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask” is very true. That’s what teachers are there for. When you are doing you homework, write down questions you have so you can remember them.
Pay attention in class. I usually tried to sit in the front of the class when there wasn’t assigned seating. You are less likely to be distracted by other people in the class in the front.
Get feedback from your teachers. They can help you figure out what you can do to understand the material better and get your grades up.
Don’t stress yourself out too much. If you get a bad grade on a test, find out why and work to improve what you missed the first time around.
Good luck!
Also, learn how to be a critical thinker. Test are going to start becoming more challenging as you get into higher grades. There will not always be only one right answer, there may be two right answers with one being more correct than the other. This is called critical thinking, which you will need to survive in life. Distinguishing for yourself what the right thing to do is, is just as important as having knowledge of facts. Learning all those important facts and figures in school wont do you much good if you dont know how to put it all together in a logical way.
And, as you progress toward high school, be giving thought to what types of subjects you enjoy, and do well in, right now in school. Then when you go to high school, make sure to not take the easy way out. High school classes are free, college classes are not. For this reason, you should challenge yourself in high school. Take one or two classes that are fun and interesting, and the other five classes make sure to take intellectually challenging classes that may even go toward college credit. You will not regret doing this, and it wont prevent you from having fun in high school either. Get involved and try everything once!…..You will not be young forever. Just make sure to make positive choices that elevate you into being the great person you are destined to become! ***Just work extra hard to avoid people with negative attitudes or who are involved in negative activities and you will do fine. This is true for as long as you live. Avoid negativity.
For languages, and subjects with lots of vocab., I recommend notecards. Put the word on the back and the definition on the back. I buy punch a hole in the corners and got those little rings that open, so they stay together. That way, I can study anywhere, and the cards aren’t falling all over the place.
Other things that I used to do — rewrite my notes. Read my notes out loud. Or have someone quiz me on my note card flash cards.
I guess it is like anything else in life, the more you put into it the more you will get out of it. The more you study and allow yourself to get interested in the material, the better you will do. I know it isn’t “cool” to be interested. But, the more interested you are, the better you will retain the information.
So, there is no course that is a “bad” one or the “one you hate”. For, as soon as you start hating a course, you have given your brain a reason ‘not to learn’ and just slack off. Trouble with slacking off, it works like rot on an apple –it spreads to other subjects.
There will be plenty of time to socialize once you are out of school(after graduation)-when you can pick your friends amongst the elite while you go to the best of jobs.
At that time(after graduation) it is too late to “start learning” stuff you should have already known.
The cellphone is the “carrot in front of the donkey”. You shouldn’t need it to learn. In order to be a person of importance or grandeur over being a no-name ditch digger(with the shovel)means education. 12 years is just a blip. Make that blip count.
ok
take detailed notes in class. pay full attention always.
NEVER cram for a test!!
always study your notes after school, just for about 3 mins. you can do it in the bus or car. just review it to make sure it sticks.
dont overwork.. plan your work out. if you for example have to read a book and write a report, do it step by step and divide the time into a few pages a day.
drink lots of water, its brain food!
take 10 min breaks between study sessions.
do after school activites that enrich your learning
also dont study last minute. its ok to review, but if you no u have a test coming up, study evertthing you learnt that day, and then the next day, study what u learnt before AND that day.
prove to your parents that you are a hard worker.
good luck! <33
You need to do two things…all your homework and write, write, write!
8th grade is a major adjustment and opens doors to many new Jr/Sr activities and sports…which might be for you.
Don’t put FUN first, but have fun, without blowing off your studies. Learn to write well. (It really impresses teacher, like me.)
Look at what you wrote above and see how that would look to a teacher….take you time, and make your work the best in the class!
Good Luck, Lee H.
As you move forward in your education, your courses will get harder and your workload will get heavier. Don’t fall behind or else you’ll have a hard time trying to catch up.
I also know that you’ll want to have fun and hang out with friends, but make sure you plan your time accordingly. There’s plenty of time for fun, but keeping up with your school work is also important.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY…ask questions. If you are not sure, ask.
then the usual-studying and staying organized. i would just look over everything you’ve done every Saturday or so, just to stay on track. this will also keep you from cramming the night before a test.
good luck with the cell phone.
p.s. maybe if you offer to pay for part of the phone, you can get it faster. oh, and get a pre-paid one. (if you want). lol.
If you have trouble, ask someone for help, like a teacher or even a friend. You and your friends could study together before a big test to make it less boring. Or you could study with flashcards or look online for things such as word searches and jeopardy games on the topic you are studying, to make it less boring to study.
Whatever you do, make sure to give yourself time to relax too, don’t overdo it.
