How much does National Honor Society help?

I’m well aware that National Honor Society is helpful for students in terms of community service, leadership, etc. I’m curious, however, how much it helps, if at all, when applying to colleges? Does it really come into play?

Colleges look for well rounded students. Students that only excel in academics are not as well viewed as students who make good grades and are involved in other activities. Grades are important, but better a student who is well rounded and makes A’s and B’s than one who makes all A’s and has no other activities on their sheet.

When applying for colleges, they look at what activities you were involved with in addition to their grades. They usually look at this information to see how involved you will be at the school and decide if you will better their institution. I would say that being in the NHS does help quite a bit when applying to colleges because you have to be elected into the committee by other teachers.
