I graduated college in ’83, and was not only at the tail end of the baby boom (thus all the good jobs were filled up by boomers), but also at the end of a recession. I landed my first full-time job in my field in February of ’84.
If it’s taking you a while, you may consider using the time to study things that appear in demand (if your field is not). The employment market is very strong now, but not for all fields. Nursing, Accounting, Engineering, and Computers are the “hot” fields, and ought to remain so for a while.
Auto mechanics are in high demand, and depending on your area, so are Electricians, Plumbers, and anyone who can work with heating and air conditioning. Trade school is almost more valuable than college these days.

I was fortunate enough to get a job right after graduation. It is because I graduated with the highest honors in college. One’s academic records really have a great influence in finding easily a job since most of the employers hire people based on good academic background.

I was lucky. I just skipped college and went right into working for a living. Boy, am I glad I did. I skipped all of that expensive. I was able to retire early and I can laugh at my friends who have to work for many more years. They are my age and will have to work long into their 60’s and 70’s.
