How do you study to memorize things such as poems and vocabulary?

For vocabulary, the only known way is to just start using those words until you are comfortable with them. Choose you vocabulary list on a weekly basis, and when you are talking, use the words on it. After a while they come easily to you.
Memorizing poems (or the line of a play) is another matter. You have to try to really understand what is being said. It isn’t just a string of words, it’s an idea. Get inside the idea. Poems are easier than play lines because there is usually a rhythmic structure and rhymes to help you out. With the lines of a play, again, you really have to understand why the person is saying what they are saying.
There’s an acting method, called the meisner method, which teaches that it can be approached in two stages. Say the words quite a number of times, without any inflection or emphasis, almost as if you were a machine. Do that until they are kind of automatic… then try to put the feeling it it, which makes the words become more than words, but vessels for thoughts.
anyways, for vocabularies, i suggest forming sentences with the vocabs, in a way so you learn the concept, once you understand what a word really means and is used for, you’ll pretty much know it for life.
as for as poems, i dont know. rhyme schemes are usually easier, but the best you can do is try to rehearse it a few times, outloud, cover it, see if you know it. but i’ve never known a good way to memorize a poem, hopefully its not too long
good luck
