How do I handle having too many bosses?

I have three dept heads that are constantly telling me to do things a different way. Granted I have never worked in a senior living community but one person tells me to do things a certain way and the next one asks me why I did that. The next one questions my competence for doing it one way or the other. I never know from day to day what I am going to do wrong according to who. Now I am being told that I can’t be hired fulltime because I don’t sell the place. I was hired as a receptionist.

When boss A says why are you doing it that way tell him thats how boss B told you to do it and you arn’t to change unless told to do so by boss B < this way he has to tie in with the other boss to get you to change, pretty soon they will realise that they all need to standardise other wise you have no chance of pleaseing them all, then you do it the way you find easiest and if one boss asks why your doing it that way tell him thats how the other 2 bosses told you to do it, pretty soon they will all be fighting amongst themselfs and leaving you alone Paul

If possible, don’t handle them at all. I totally get where you are coming from! You never know what to say, do or think…because it will be wrong to someone in the end. I used to work in a senior living community and that was the same s**t I had to deal with! I got out of there quickly. Can you get a receptionist job elsewhere?

Here is one way to deal: pit them against each other. I don’t mean to make them hate each other, that would be bad. Here’s what you do: Find a time when they are all together talking, or in the same room. Ask all of them at once how they want you to do something. If they dissagree, they will argue with each other until they agree to something. And if they still give you different instructions, point it out and saw that you need one answer because you can’t do something three different ways.

Ask the three bosses to join you in a meeting and ask them openly what you are expected to do. Explain your situation of getting directions from three people and these directions often conflict with one another. Tell them you are capable of doing the job if given clear direction.

I have this big advice (for me :D)~

Make a conference about whom shall you follow among your dept heads. If they decided, do it. If they still argue with it, do things YOUR WAY. It’s still you as receptionist, right, not your bosses 😀

Hope this helps~

I know what you are talking about. The only way out is to start looking for business opportunities and investments, invest and get the hell out of there. Good luck.

Knowledge is the key, step up your game so you want have to be managed at all, then choose the one that you want to use in order to get your advancement and cater to their EGO. It’s a game of chess but now only you are in control giving them what they want but in the end it is you that will have CHECKMATE.

Tell them you will get another job if the three of them don’t stop their ridiculous behavior. If they object….get another job. You don’t need that kind of harassment from three worthless bosses.

i was in a situation like this before. i confronted my superiors with honesty explaining that how they’re telling me to do certain things are contradicting each others demands, and eventually they came up with a certain way to do those things in an agreeably correct way.

get THEM to meet and reach a common decision, inform each one of the other’s decisions or…

go find another job…

That should take care of the problem >: )
