You are on the right track — you want to get good grades and you are being proactive about it. While there is no general advice that works for everyone, one thing I did to help me memorize was to read the textbook and type my notes on my computer (as opposed to just reading the book). This forced me to comprehend what I was reading and gave me clean and easy to read notes to review before tests. I would also type my class notes after class. This way I would force my self to review what happened in class and once again I would have easy to read notes to review before tests. This strategy worked well for me in high school, college and grad school. Good luck!
