Hearts and Hands-By O. Henry.?
What does the last sentence mean where they say, “Did you ever know an officer to handcuff a prisoner to his “right” hand?”
I’m sure there’s some catch to it. Just don’t quite get it…

I imagine it refers to the fact that a real officer would handcuff a prisoner to his left, disabling the prisoner’s right hand while leaving his (the officer’s) right hand free to draw his gun. O’Henry often leaves a final ironic twist at the end for the reader to figure out. Have you read The Last Leaf? It’s my favorite.
