The calculator that is already installed on Windows 98 and above has the exponential symbol. Go to Start>Programs>Accessories and click on “Calculator.” Click on the view menu and click on “Scientific.” look for the button that has the symbol “x^y” in pinkish-purple letters on the left. That is your exponent key. You click or type using the number pad on the right of your keyboard the first number, then click on that button, then enter your second number, then click on the = button or hit enter on your number pad.

For example, to find the answer to 5^9, you would click on the “5” button, then the “x^y” button, then the “9” button, then the “=” button.

Microsoft offers one to download,:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

On the right-hand side you will find a link to the “Power Calculator”. It is free and you do not need to fear any spyware and such.
