Good ways to study?

I haven’t really had to study for tests since I was in second grade, and now I have a class I really have to study for. I bombed 2 of my tests out of four and so my grade is pretty low in that class. The one I did well on I studied for by making myself a crossword puzzle, but it took me 1 1/2 hours for me to make it (I did it on an internet program). What are some good, efficient ways to study for tests? If it helps with your answer, I am a kinesthetic and a visual learner.

I answered a question very much like yours about an hour ago. Here is what I said ..

It depends on the type of test she gives. If it is mostly essay questions, make sure you pace yourself, and address each question you are asked to answer. No matter what type of test, don’t skip any questions. Make sure you at least attempt everything.

The studying again depends on what she requires in the test. If it is mostly memory and you need to remember dates, names, etc., regular review is one of the best ways – study history every night – don’t leave it all until Friday. Cramming just before the test doesn’t work. As you are reading the material, some of it every night, ask yourself questions about the material as you read. Highlight and take notes. Think about the kinds of questions that have been on the tests in the past, and see if you can write some of your own, or figure out what type of questions might be on the next test.

Listen very well in class. Be attentive. Ask questions if you don’t understand something. Ask your teacher what kinds of things you can do to do better on the tests.

Make sure you take care of yourself physically. Eat nutritiously especially a good breakfast, get some fresh air and exercise, and get enough sleep. especially the night before the test. Many students forget that these are very important factors in doing well on tests.

Here are several sites that may help you. Best of luck with it.

The best way for me (because I’m a visual/kinesthetic learner) is to write it out myself. Everything I need to know and then connect it with a thought or feeling. I know that sounds really weird but the best way for me to remember something is to connect it with an emotion or song. So listen to some music while studying and then listen to the music right before the test so its in your head when you taking the test…I know that sounds weird but it works for me! If it is a list of things you need to remember then use an acronym (I know I can’t spell) but that works too! like if you need to remember the answer is jefferson, washington and monroe then use a funny saying like joe washes men! good luck!

You could write up summary sheets

You could ask your teacher to give you a fake test to see how well you do

You could record all the info and then listen to it again and again

You could make flash cards

You could get someone to test you

You could stick up summary sheets and questions around the house

You could have a study date with friends and try out all different study techniques with your friends

You could make a powerpoint

You could write out the info ten times each

Thats all I can think of so far

I’m sure theres more ways

Happy studying!

OMG….I feel your pain. I used flash cards. I went through the study material and picked out the most important points. That alone helped alot. I went through the flash cards constantly. With the flash cards I wasn’t distracted by the info I wouldn’t need.
