Do you have to take sewing or clothes making class if you want to be a designer?

I’m a freshmen, and please…please don’t tell me it’s too early to think about my college future. I’m thinking of taking art next year for my sophomore year, and i heard that if your a designer you need to know how to make clothes and stuff, so… where do i take those classes? Today at community service, a senior girl told me i should take designer classes over at the Delta College ( night school? ) which i have to pay $150 a unit?! Should i do that? Or what should i do? If there’s anything i need to know about, please tell me. 🙂

yes, definitely, you can’t just design something and get someone else to make it until ur a recognized name or have millions of dollars, plus it helps design wise to know how the clothes are made.

If you are talking about designing clothes, taking sewing and related designer courses is a good idea. How can you design a gown if you don’t know what the nap of the fabric is or where the lines are, etc.

yes and it’s never too early to think about college and never too late either. all education is good. If you’re really interested then go for it. you do what you want, dont let others decide what u want. It’s your life. I wanted to go to college so i worked my butt off and paid my way. It was worth it. very good luck to you. oh and yeah sewing is probably mandetory.
