Maybe choose a more light hearted topic. Maybe something like:

1. Should young children have cell phones?

2. How has the rise in gas prices effected the middle class economy?

3. Should the states be able to pass public smoking bans and what are the pros and cons?

4. Traveling within the US and abroad: the places people want to go and why. Where they have been and what they did.

5. Halloween and how it got started. Is it really a celebration of All Hallows Eve or somthing that the USA has turned into a “money making” yearly event. Do the kids of today really know where Halloween came from . Should schools stop celebrating it?

6. How much difference does it really make if you graduate from an ivy league college vs a regular state college or community college?

7. Are professional sports players paid too much? How do these players actions effect young people?

8. Do people put too much information on their Myspace pages. How vulnerable does this make you to predators?

9. Are the schools taking out too many of the elective classes and preventing kids from having a more rounded education?

Provide a list of topics and let your group decide what they think is a good topic to discuss. Making the decision on which topic to discuss is a discussion in and of itself.
