How do you learn about poetry and composition when your school isn’t big enough or won’t fund such classes?

I don’t know of any good free online writing classes.
You can check some 6 weeks length creative classes online at ed2go for example. Some community colleges offer these classes online at a very affordable price as well.

Uh…I’m afraid “famous authors” don’t write forewords for vanity published self-help books. Unless a famous author is a pesonal friend, you are wasting your time. If course, if you’re not talking about vanity publishing, your publisher will find someone to write the foreword. One of the famous authors they publish, for instance.
