Does this seem like an impressive curiculum for 10th grade?

Latin II- Covering two Latin texts, focusing on pronunciation, vocabulary, and translations.

Bible- In depth reading of first half of Old Testament (Creation-David)

History- World History (Creation-Middle Ages)

Math- Algebra II

Science- Chemistry

Vocabulary- SAT vocab

Writing- SAT prep writing

Reading- Book of Job, Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World, Confessions of St. Augustine, The Odessy, Epic of Gilgamesh, More Then A Carpenter, and Antigone.

What do you think? Good choices? Good Education?

I don’t think so. There’s no evidence of critical thinking being applied to the material, and the language arts in general are weak. It’s all very well to prep for the SAT, but it isn’t, in itself, a curriculum. Being able to write 5 paragraphs with topic sentences should be old hat, by now. Can the child evaluate sources? Does he/she know what a primary source is? Can he/she compare and contrast the issues in Antigone, for example, with modern parallels in Iraq? Reading is a good thing, but there has to be a way to bring it into use for the reader.

I don’t even know what to say about what covering the entire history of the world from creation to the middle ages in 9-12 months would entail. More than you’ve got time for, surely. If you look at the curriculum for the AP test in American history, you’ll see that it includes some material on pre-Colombian societies, and the colonial period only starts in 1492. The entire world is a big place, you might want to lop off a smaller bit.

Also, think about what you want the Latin to do. While there are still some classical programs in the colleges (do a college search for them) some ordinary colleges won’t recognize Latin credits towards their language requirements. If you’re going to need to show 2 years, now is the time.

yes and no, but the most important part of any CV is your covering letter which of course needs to be tailored to each indivdual application…. Ask yourself if you were the employer, would you employ yourserself based only on the info above… I wouldnt, I would like to know your skills- good communicator, quick learner and provide examples of how and when or achievement certificates

Utterly inadequate. And–BTw–I am a college instructor.

That is not in any sense sufficient for college prep work. the student should be withdrawn from any school that has such a poor course of study. Even the public schools do better than that.

If the remainder of the high-school course of study at ths school is no better–don’t plan on college. And–I am NOT saying that because its a “Christian school”–I went to one myself and it was excellant. This is not–it’s as simple as that.
