Architecture would be what and Architect is. They are hired directly by the client and they do the design work, most of the coordination between various parties, including the city/state and the client, engineers and such. This is the typical “Architect” job that one would think about.

An architectural engineer is also known as a “structural engineer”. They are usually hired by the architect and they do the mathematical and scientific calculations of the structure to ensure that it is structurally sound. These people tend to also be in the area of designing things like bridges, where there is only the structure and nothing extra.
