But it helps to have it in case you accidentally forget to put the full or correct destination address on, you will at least get the letter back instead of it going to the dead letter office.
Or if the letter gets damaged and the destination address cannot be read you will get the letter back.
Or if the person has moved and did not leave a forwarding address, you will get the letter back.
(You will have to put one on if it is over 13oz or it will not be accepted, and you will have to take it into your local office, carriers are no longer allowed to accept anything bearing stamps that is more than 13oz. Don’t put it in a blue collection box either, it will be returned to you or go to the dead letter office if there is no return address.)
If it’s a personal mail (to a friend or something), you might wanna write down the return address in case he/she wants to reply but doesn’t have your address. 🙂
