do u think summer homework is fair?
I am fine with reading a book. Thats no problem. However, I have to read a book and give a paragraph summary on every chapter. I have to do about 100 math questions. In science, i have to answer 200 questions and read 12 chapters. then i have to find 15 articles(finished this already) on 15 science topics and write a 2 paragraph summary on each? Is this really fair? isn’t summer VACATION a vaction not work ur @$$ of just to do more work two months later?

I think that much work is a bit excessive. It seems like the teachers can’t manage to teach enough during the school year and that’s their fault. My son had to do summer reading which I don’t have a problem with. However, he had to read two books and each book has a 26 page worksheet and each one counts as a test grade. He’s only going into 9th grade so that is ridiculous.

Not really. Summer reading is different from summer homework, though. To read a book is reasonable, but I once had to write a 10 page research paper over the summer. I was a junior in high school and I’d written longer papers, and not had problems with it, but it didn’t feel fair to have to write it over the summer. I have projects to do over the summer now that I’m in college, but I go to art school and love what I do, so it doesn’t really feel like work…

That is certainly over doing it a bit. That’s too much to be assigned during the summer. I can understand why some teachers may think that summer homework is necessary. It seems, though, that these teachers forgot what it feels like to be a student.

Wow…that’s a lot of work…well, it’s really not too insanely miserable…just make sure you read at least 50 -100 pages a day, and answer at least 25 a day and you should be done in no time! The key is to not do everything at once b/c you’re going to drive yourself insane getting it all done and you won’t be happy with it. Sorry; and good luck!

when were you given these assignments?at the first of the summer? a paragraph can consist of 3 or 4 sentences not much…if you had done it everyday..it would have seem like nothing…and I think all students should have to stimulate their mind with homework even in the summer,to help our kids keep up with the world..

You shouldn’t have to do homework in the summer. That’s Bull Crap. Summer is supposed to be fun and not for work.
