Children
Bible Blast is a creative Sunday morning education program for school-age children kindergarten through fifth grade. During the Sunday school hour, they meet together in a large group to learn a memory verse, sing songs, have a prayer time, and to give an offering. Then they are divided into age-appropriate groups, going into one of five classrooms:
Joseph’s workshop
Martha and Mary’s Bed and Breakfast
Holywood, Global Village, or Synagogue Shepherds
guide them through each morning’s experience where the children learn a Bible story and learn about the culture and customs of Bible times.
What is the Rotation Model?
The Workshop Rotation Model was first developed in the Chicago suburbs in the early 90’s by a number of Presbyterian churches seeking to solve some chronic Sunday school problems: boring curriculum, boring classrooms, bored kids, and low Bible literacy. They were also seeking to overhaul the children’s classrooms to make them kid-friendly. Out of these needs the Workshop Rotation Model was born. Three things set the model apart:
The Rotation Model reorganizes the way you teach, not what you teach. Various rotation schedules have been used in VBS for decades. The purpose of the different workshops or centers is to allow children to use different ways of learning, rather than only pencil, worksheet, and book methods.
Kids rotate by class to a different workshop for 4-5 weeks. During that time, the story they learn is the same in each workshop. Kids love repetition and need it to remember their lessons.
The workshop teachers stay put. They teach the same lesson to a different age group of kids each week, cutting down on preparation time. Adult leaders called Shepherds move with the children each week and form close relationships with the children by keeping up with them between sessions.
Once a rotation is completed, each child will have experienced the story by using all of his or her senses. This will help them to retain the faith story in their hearts and minds. Educators know that we retain only 30% of what we see and hear, but 90% of what we say and do, and 100% of what we experience.

Participation in local and global ministries are incorporated as well as the use of the arts.
