Any tips for preparing for Drumline?

Auditions are in 9 months, and I’ve been playing drums for 4 years. Drum set and snare, percussion at school. I’m a 15 years old, any tips?

I know double stroke rolls like the back of my hand.

First of all, Good for YOU! Starting to prepare 9 months ahead will give you the head start on everyone else.

Practice your cadence drills every chance you get. If it’s not practical to practice with your drum, go to a music store and buy a rubber practice pad, and do it anywhere. Anytime you listen to music, practice a cadence to it, that will help with diversity of music.

Watch the movie “Drumline”. People may laugh, but it gets you in the mood and encourages you to do your absolute best.

Last, work on your sight reading, and playing your lines exactly with NO fancy work. In auditions, they look for uniformity, the ability to follow directions, and while they don’t frown on character and individuality, they do frown on showboating, or showing off. They’re looking for someone who can ADD their talent to the group to make one big beautiful sound!

Best of luck!

nicely, I watch a jap anime and that i’ve got got here across some words from it. perhaps you’re able to start up looking some jap shows (with english subtitles). it would no longer be the 1st-fee in educating it fully, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it truly is going to assist. i’m extreme.
