Any tips for a journalism major looking to be in Broadcast(sports)?

I’m going to be a junior this upcoming school year(19 year old female) with 94 units completed by the end of fall 2007. I currently go to a Cal State that has a crappy rep for journalism(sadly it has no accredation) and I’m minoring in creative writing. I was going to transfer to Michigan State but because I have completed so much already I figured I’d wait until grad school to move out of state. Besides all the info(that was probably useless), I wanted to know what I should do before I graduate to sort of boost my skills and resume for a possible broadcast career in sports journalism. Details would be great. I love sports, but I wouldn’t call myself an expert. Internships? Tips? ANYTHING! 🙂 I just feel like I’m going through a ‘major’ crisis!

I’d suggest going to a School for Broadcasting. Many years ago, maybe 1974 or thereabouts,I was accepted at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting for (hopefully) Disc Jockey work but my priorities changed and I went in a different career direction. I still think that’s the way to go, especially because Broadcasting institutions like the above should have an effective placement service for graduates.

Try googling “Broadcasting Schools”, for example……there must be many around the country. Best of luck to you!

Broadcast journalism is an exciting field, but there are few on-air seats for many many many candidates.

The way in? Smallville, USA. Gotta move to Outback Aways, North Dakota and do the farm report at 3 am for a year before you can even report on the possible jockstrap theft at the local high school gym.

Eventually, through hard work and sending tape to anybody with a mailbox, you’ll move up a little at a time.

Six figures are not in your immediate future.

remember she had to attend 5 diverse faculties over 6 years to get that straightforward BA in Journalism so as that she could be a sportscaster, it incredibly is a million step up from large chested climate woman. does not truly mirror a pointy strategies with a large vocabulary. Spoonfull of Sugar: FYI: She graduated from college in 1987 and song is eighteen years previous. She wasn’t going to college on a similar time as elevating toddlers.
