Am I a right/left brain learner and whats my problem?

I can’t do mental math.[I still use my fingers when doing math at age 17]

I still have trouble remebering my multipulcation tables[I often still have to do it the long way]

I love to learn and know a lot but have trouble organizing my thoughts to write them down.[I prefer to tell people what I know because I’m much better at speaking my knowlegde than writing it]

History and geography are my worst subjects. I just don’t get it. Unless there are specific answers I can copy out of a book word for word I get highly confused. It hard for me to pull imortant information out and organize it so it makes sense. I end up having panic attacks trying to do it!

I am excellent at writing fiction but when it comes to facts I have trouble organizing them so they make sense. I love writing fiction because there are no rules.

My favorite subjects are science, psychology, philosophy and art. I am good at them all.

I love examples and often don’t understand stuff without them.

LOL I’m almost 50 and still have problems with mental math! It’s not fatal!

It sounds to me like your biggest problem is organization … but you didn’t seem to have too much trouble writing facts down in order here!

I learned to write when I got my hands on a typewriter (and later a computer). I discovered that my thoughts just fly off onto the page! It was a wonderfully liberating experience!

However, you still have to get through your education … but you can do that by concentrating on your strengths and getting a bit of help with your weaknesses.

For example history — that’s really my thing! I don’t know how a good fiction writer could not like history! The thing is, to relax and enjoy the story — that’s what history is, a story. It just so happens it’s a true one!

Next time you need to write “facts” try putting them on separate pieces of paper, note cards, etc. Then sort them so they make sense to you. THEN write them down! That’s how I wrote history papers for YEARS and then, all of a sudden, it became a natural thing.

You might also try and find a course in study skills and organization … that will help a lot!

Good luck!
