Writing question about quotations, i am doing a summer project. plz help.?

If you have a quote you want to state in a paper you put it in ” “, but what if you want to leave some things out in the middle. The quote I want is this.

“It takes me a long time to get used to people I do not know. (Then from there, there is an example that I do not wish to include in my quote, and then it continues with this…) So talking to other people in our street was brave. But if you are going to do detective work you have to be brave.” Pg. 35

So in other words, I want the beginning and end of the quote, but not the middle. How do I do this?

I appreciate the help.

To shorten a quote for a paper, you write it like this:

“It takes me a long time to get used to people I do not know…So talking to other people in our street was brave. But if you are going to do detective work you have to be brave.”

You just add those dots in there to show that you left part of the quote out.

You can do the dot dot dot thing. It makes it so that you do not technically leave anything out.
