Writing from experience?

I have to write a paper for class about someone or something that has helped shape who I am.

I am braindead over it!

Any ideas?

I know that nobody else can speak from my experience, but I can’t even come up with an instance.

(1) This is an opportunity to sing the praises of someone

you admire. A TV or movie star, an athlete or musical entertainer are possible subjects. What you admire in

them are qualities you hope to cultivate for yourself.

Most of us are drawn to these personalities like magnets.

They personify our dreams and provide models to emulate.

(2) Look into your own family or your circle of friends

and acquaintances for a similar discussion. Parents,

aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, teachers, team-mates, and classmates are possibilities. As with the

celebrities above, we value other people in our personal

lives. What you cherish about them shows not only your

aspirations, but also your own strong qualities.

(3)If you choose to write about an experience or

event in your own life, you will write a much more personal

paper about something that had profound effects on

your life or how you now think about the world. For

example, when I was in high school my best friend was

a hot-rodding motorhead. He died in a high speed

accident while driving killing three other friends and

himself. I have always been keenly aware of how I

drive now. I learned also that even people I look up

to may have great flaws in character.

Hope I’ve given you some ideas to consider and good

luck at school.

How about either of your parents? Or a teacher? A friend who has changed your views on something. A sibling…. A life event… For me something that helped shape who I am is my parents divorce. It changed me a lot… And as negative as it could be seen (divorce) it helped me become stronger.

Maybe this helps? Good luck!
