Ryan digs 1/5 of the hole in 1hr.

Castel digs 1/6 of the hole in 1hr.

1/5 + 1/6

= (6 + 5) / 30

= 11/30

Together, therefore, they dig 1/5 + 1/6 = 11/30 of the hole in 1hr.

They take 30/11hr. to dig the hole together.

That is 2hr. 8*60/11min.

= 2hr. 480/11min

= 2h4 43 7/11min.

First figure out the volume of the hole (Pi*R^2*h)=vol.

volume=3.14×5^2x10ft = 785cubic ft.

If u divide that by the time it takes each to dig it

Ryan=785/5=157 cubic ft/hour

Castel=785/6=130.83 cubic feet/hour

Working together add the two rates 157+130.83=287.83 ft^3/hr is the new rate.

Divide the original volume by that new rate and you get the new time.

785/287.83=2.72 hours
