Word Problem Help?

1)

The length of a rectangle is 5 in. more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 34 in., find the width of the rectangle.

2)

Adult tickets for a play cost $11 and child tickets cost $8. If there were 27 people at a performance and the theater collected $249 from ticket sales, how many children attended the play?

1) 2(2x+5) = 34; x = 6 ; width is 6, length is 10

2) 8x+11(27-x) = 249

solve for x, you will get the number of children

Well, here’s the equation for it:

L=5 in. + W

2W + 2L = 34 in.

Do a system of equations:

The answer is: 11 in. = Length

7 in. = Width

2.) $11a + $8c = $249

a + c = 27

Do a system of equations:

The answer is: 11 adult tickets

16 children tickets

Sorry, but I don’t do people’s homework for them unless they have at least given me a sizable advance of $100 per question…that’s not including the fees for actually working out a problem…that would cost $200 per question. So it’s really best if you do your own homework.
