Because the floor of the Pacific Ocean is spreading in almost all directions, at the edges where it meets the various land masses, it is being driven down into the extremely hot mantle beneath.

The rock of the ocean floor melts because of the heat and pressure of the surrounding mantle. Any water or marine organisms carried down with the ocean floor, turn to superheated steam and other gases.

This molten ocean floor, which is lighter than the surrounding mantle, together with its load of gases and some of the molten rock from the mantle, forces its way up through cracks, faults, and fissures in the land rocks above, eventually bursting out as volcanoes, all round the Pacific Rim.

It is all these volcanoes which give the “Ring of Fire” it’s truly descriptive name.

There is actually a chain of volcanoes across the floor of the Pacific Ocean that has been dubbed “The Ring of Fire.”

all of the countries that surround the pacific ocean have access or have nuclear missles and that is why its called the ring becuae the countries form a ring and the fire because of the nuclear missles they have.
