Math help!?

I’m home alone and I don’t understand my math homework, so I’ve come on here for some help with it. I don’t really understand it at all, our teacher just kind of shoved it at us for homework, so there was no explanation. It should be 10th grade math. I’ll type out some of the questions as examples. [2] means exponent or to the power of 2.

1) 6x[2]-2x+5x-3

2)5-7x+3x+4x[2]

10)-9x[3]-x2+5x-4-2x[3]+8x[2]-6x+6

Ignore the 1st post. Dumb spammers..

I’m in 9th grade, close enough, should be able to help you.

Okay, just so you know, for future reference, ^2 means power two.

Secondly, are you sure there is no equal sign? If not, I’m just going to assume you have to factor these equations.

1) 6x^2 – 2x + 5x – 3

Okay, you’ve got your equation. Lets combine like terms first.

6x^2 + 3x – 3

Factor out the 3.

3(2x^2 + x – 1)

Okay, you’ve got something you can factor out of the expression in the parentheses.

3(2x – 1)(x + 1)

There! That’s your answer, you can factor it no more.

2) 5 – 7x + 3x + 4x^2

Combine like terms.

4x^2 – 4x + 5

Factor this equation. You will have to use the quadratic equation for this.

[-4 + or – root(16 – 80)]/4

That’s odd.. You can’t have a negative in a square root.. So therefore, this equation’s answer would be no solution because there is an imaginary number in it, I suppose..

3) 9x^2 + 2x + 5 – 5x^2 + 8x – 6

First of all, combine your like terms.

4x^2 + 10x – 1

Ooooh.. Looks like it’s going to be a toughie.. 😛 Saying that because you can’t factor it using standard..

First of all, plug the numbers into the quadratic equation.

[-10 + or – root(100 – 16)]/4

Okay, simplify it a little bit.

[-10 + or – root(84)]/4

You can extract 4 from 84. Lets do that.

[-10 + or – 2 root (21)]/4

YAY! Now you can get rid of that denominator! (Part of it)

[-5 + or – root(21)]/2

That’s your answer. You should check it just in case.

Hope I helped.

O.k. I’m in grade 10 too.. so I should be able to help..

check your order of operations.. here goes

1) 6x[2] – 2X + 5X – 3 = 6x[2] +3X -3

This is because you are adding like terms… +5x and -2X which gives you +3X.. I dont think there is another possibility, factoring.. ??

2) 4x[2] -4x +5

10) -11x[3] + 8X[2] +X – 4
